An 8-week course in improvisation for confidence, connection and thinking on your feet.

Next course starts September 8th.

Improv for Life is a beginner-friendly course for people who want to become more confident, spontaneous and comfortable with uncertainty — while learning improv in a practical, social setting.

Most of the course is active and playful. You’ll work with other people, try things without knowing exactly how they’ll turn out, and learn to respond to what is happening in the moment. It’s often funny, but you don’t need to try to be funny.

Improv is often associated with comedy and performance, but its core skills — presence, spontaneity, adaptability and trust — are useful in everyday life too.

You do not need any acting or improv experience.

What you’ll do

This is a hands-on course. We will spend most of our time doing improv exercises, working in pairs and groups, and creating scenes and situations together.

Through that work, you will practice:

  • thinking on your feet
  • speaking and acting with more confidence
  • becoming more comfortable with uncertainty
  • turning down the inner critic and trusting your impulses
  • developing spontaneity and creativity
  • connecting and collaborating more naturally with others
  • noticing status and learning to shift it deliberately

Unlike a typical comedy improv class, the focus is not on being funny. After some exercises, we will also talk about what happened: what you noticed about yourself or the group, and how the same patterns can show up outside improv.
